Our Story

Family-Owned and Operated Since 1994

At The Red Caboose Café, family has always been at the heart of everything we do. Since opening our doors on August 14, 1994, we have proudly served the Clovis community with delicious meals, a welcoming atmosphere, and the dedication that only a family-owned business can provide. From our humble beginnings in a small storefront at Bullard and Minnewawa to our growth into a Clovis staple, our story is one of perseverance, community, and family values.

A Place to Gather

Whether it's breakfast with friends or dinner with loved ones, we’re your home away from home.

Our Humble Beginnings

The Red Caboose Cafe was born from the shared dream of Richard and Teresa Claborn. Teresa gained experience working as a server at a local restaurant and along with her husband, Richard, they were determined to build a place that served more than just meals – it would serve as a gathering spot for the Clovis community and surrounding areas.

In those early days, running the café was no small feat. Richard worked tirelessly, supporting the café on weekends while commuting to San Francisco during the week for his construction job. Teresa managed the restaurant seven days a week, ensuring every detail was attended to. Their children, Jimmy and Pam, pitched in to help, along with a small, dedicated staff. Through their collective hard work and determination, the café began to grow.

Growing with the Community

As the café’s reputation grew, so did its physical space. With overwhelming support from the Clovis community, we were able to expand by taking over an adjoining space, increasing our seating capacity from 45 to 120 guests. This growth reflected not only the popularity of our café but also the trust and loyalty of our customers.

In 2009, we took a leap of faith and moved to our current location at Shaw and Academy. At the time, the surrounding area was underdeveloped, and the move came with uncertainty. But to our surprise and gratitude, our loyal customers followed us to the new location, and the rural community welcomed us with open arms. This pivotal moment solidified our place as a cornerstone of the Clovis dining scene.

A Family Tradition

Today, The Red Caboose Cafe remains a family-run restaurant, a testament to the passion and dedication of its founders. Richard and Teresa continue to lead with their unwavering commitment to quality and hospitality along with their daughter Pam, who plays an integral role in the day-to-day operations. Our staff, many of whom have been with us for years, are not just employees – they’re an extension of our family.

Our customers are also part of this extended family. We’ve had the privilege of watching families grow, serving children who now return as adults with families of their own. It’s these relationships that make The Red Caboose Café more than just a restaurant—it’s a community hub where memories are made.

We owe our success to the incredible community that has supported us every step of the way. Your patronage, loyalty, and love have allowed us to grow and thrive. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for making The Red Caboose Café part of your lives. Every meal we serve is a reflection of our gratitude and our desire to give back to the community that has given us so much.
